Session 8: The Different Faces of Faith Driven Investing

One size does not fit all when it comes to Faith Driven Investing. Each of us is unique in our approach, and that’s what it will take for us to win for God.

And yet, our capital needs to be driving the big decisions that are being made in media and the marketplace. Too often we’re embracing a victim mentality instead of trailblazing a new way forward. We see this in the jobs we create and in the films we make.

Transforming the marketplace and influencing culture is no small task. But if we want our voices to be heard, we need to engage. We need to work hard to be known for what we’re for rather than what we’re against. And there’s no time to waste.

Work through these 3 questions:

  1. What industries, spaces, and opportunities that shape culture have we abandoned?

  2. What are the spaces 20 years from now where we wish we had invested more? Should the alternative side of our portfolio include capital that is invested in culture shaping industries?

  3. Every city has its own culture. How can a redemptive business that leads to transformational change in people and places impact the outcome of our own neighborhood?

3 Ideas to Explore the Mark Further

There’s no limit to the ways you can explore the Marks of a Faith Driven Investor. What we provide below are five ideas we think might lead each one of us to an even greater understanding of our identity in Christ.

  1. Consider: In a world of boycotts, protests, and Cancel Culture … What does it look like to be different? What does it look like to be for something? What does it look like to be for the flourishing of humanity? Faith Driven Investing is centered on the fact that God has given us the gift of life—now and eternal—and that we have an opportunity to respond out of joy and gratitude to how we think about the investment capital that He has entrusted us with. And then as we accept the invitation to participate in the work that God is doing in the world, we go from a monochromatic existence to a technicolor one.

  2. Act Differently: Discover the breadth of faith driven opportunities by reviewing a sampling of faith driven Venture Capital and Private Equity funds, seeing faith driven funds and direct deal flow on Marketplace, or attending a Lion’s Den pitch event.

  3. Learn From Others: Visit  faithdriveninvestor.org to learn more or join the conversation by listening to our weekly  Faith Driven Investor Podcast.
