Session 5: Risk & Reward

 
 

Think about it: when we play it too safe with our resources, we might be like the rich man in Matthew 19 who is unwilling to give it all up in order to enter into the Kingdom of God.

The real risk isn't in stepping out in faith; it's in holding too tightly onto what we’ve amassed only to miss out on the incredible ways God wants to use us to solve the world’s greatest problems.

As Faith Driven Investors, we can use an intentional approach to investigate and select investments that meet the goals God has given us. In the process, we can get clear, get free, and get going. Here are a few more questions to help your group go even deeper in discussion.

  1. What have you amassed that might be preventing you from pursuing God’s promptings for even greater impact? What is one thing you can do today to give control over to God?

  2. What if your investments could solve some of the world’s greatest problems? What is the problem you would solve? What would that look like to get going?

  3. Having a written, codified plan helps us get clear on where God is calling us. It keeps us free from being distracted by “church parking lot deals”. What is your plan to invest for Kingdom impact?

There’s no limit to the ways you can explore the Marks of a Faith Driven Investor. What we provide below are three ideas we think might lead each one of us to an even greater understanding of how we can Redefine Return. 

  1. Consider: So, how do we avoid the temptation of the barn builder while embracing the wisdom of the talented servants? One modern tool is the Donor-Advised Fund, or DAF. A DAF is like a charitable investment account. You contribute cash, securities, or other assets, and those funds can be invested for tax-free growth. You then recommend grants to your favorite charities over time.

  2. Act Differently: Invite your spouse and family members to join you in a free online Journey of Generosity (JOG) retreat hosted by Generous Giving (for US audiences) or Generosity Path (for non-US audiences) where you'll have a safe space to process your relationship with money and generosity.
