CEO | Intel

Pat Gelsinger is chief executive officer of Intel Corporation and serves on its board of directors.

Before joining Intel in February 2021, Gelsinger spent nine years as CEO of VMware. In that role, he transformed VMware into a recognized global leader in cloud infrastructure, enterprise mobility and cyber security – almost tripling the company’s annual revenues. Pat was also ranked the best CEO in America in 2019, according to an annual survey by Glassdoor. Prior to VMWare, Pat was president and COO of EMC’s Information Infrastructure Products business, overseeing engineering and operations and leading the office of the CTO.

Pat began his career at Intel, where he was appointed the company’s youngest VP and was the architect of the original 486 processor. A few years later he became Intel’s first CTO. In 2008, Pat was named a fellow of IEEE and awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters in 2008 from William Jessup University. And in 2020, Pat was appointed by the President to the National Security Telecommunications Advisory Committee (NSTAC).

Pat grew up working on his family’s farm in eastern Pennsylvania. As a teenager, he stumbled into the tech industry after taking a trade-school test on a whim, an exam he now refers to as “my great accident.” Based on his scores, he was offered a scholarship to Lincoln Technical Institute where he earned an Associate’s degree in 1979. Pat then took his first plane trip to Silicon Valley and started work for Intel as a quality-control technician. While working full-time at Intel, he earned his Bachelor’s from Santa Clara University in 1983, graduating magna cum laude, and also earned his Master’s at Stanford in 1985.

Pat and his wife Linda have been married for over 30 years and have four children and eight grandchildren (and hopefully many more to come!). Pat is a committed Christian and the author of “The Juggling Act: Bringing Balance to Your Faith, Family and Work.” He speaks frequently on faith, work and philanthropy.
